(VANCOUVER, January 11, 2017) – John Weston, former West Vancouver MP, has joined McMillan, LLP, a leading Canadian business law firm, and its affiliate national public affairs firm, McMillan Vantage Policy Group. He will support clients in the areas of Indigenous Affairs, Government Affairs, and Pacific Rim Transactions. He will work out of the firms’ offices in both Vancouver and Ottawa.
“We are thrilled to welcome John to our growing public affairs team. His broad experience and insight into public, legal, and business affairs; and his ability in Mandarin, French and English will be of enormous benefit to clients as we expand the practice,” said Tim Murphy, executive partner and Co-Chair of McMillan’s Government and Public Policy Group.
McMillan Vantage Policy Group provides government relations counsel, policy and regulatory analysis, and strategic communications. The McMillan Vantage team, whose members have counselled prime ministers and premiers and held political office, interprets private sector concerns to public sector leaders and government priorities to the C-suite, bridging an often difficult divide.
In addition to John, the team includes former Canadian Alliance Leader and Leader of Canada's Official Opposition, Stockwell Day and Ontario’s former Liberal Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, Dwight Duncan.
In the course of his career, John has served in Parliament, as M.P. for West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea to Sky Country; practised law in Indigenous and Constitutional Law; and practised law in Asia for a decade. He is also a businessman, author, and professional speaker.
